This app brings together a field guide, trip planner and sightings log to help you get more out of a trip here. Start with the regions to learn about Sumatra's wildlife hotspots — from Gunung Leuser's orangutans to Way Kambas's elephants — and see what species you're likely to find at each. Use the species guide to learn how to identify the mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians found across the island, with the ID features that separate look-alike species in the field. Add any region or species that interests you straight to your trip planner, which builds into a personal itinerary you can use to plan your own trip, or send to a tour operator to help them tailor a route around what you most want to see.

Once you're on the ground in Sumatra, switch to My Sightings to record what you actually saw — the species, the location and the date. It's a simple way to keep track of your trip as it happens, and afterwards it doubles as a personal memento of the wildlife you encountered, or a record you can share with friends, family or fellow travellers.
